Inevitable Coexistence

by Moataz Faissal Farid

Throughout history, People have been holding on to identities, nationalities, colors, ethnicities and religions. Fear and phobia promoted by media and extreme political parties represent an obstacle in building a dialogue between Muslims and the communities of the western world. In such circumstances, the image that worship places promote is quite meaningful and must convey the appropriate message, that all humans are one, that unity can exist within diversity and that religions can bring people together instead of apart.
For decades, Mosques have been bound to traditional forms. Some forms were strictly preserved and followed despite the disappearance of the initial function for which they were originally designed. This Project is an attempt for positive renewal, and for going deeper in understanding the architectural qualities of the mosque and re interpret it with a European character, giving it the possibility to develop its own identity and become a part of its new territory.

This Islamic Center proposal is about gathering people to share their common grounds and share the marvel of the universe. Gathering people in worldly daily activities, next to a neighboring mosque, surrounded by Natural elements that keep people grounded and thoughtful of the Mightiness of our Creator. The complex that can get busy at different times throughout the day gets quieter, with shadows and dimming lights at Prayer Times. The project uses different modelling Tools for generative design, as an experiment to modernize Islamic geometric pattern, Inspired by the Universe, and give them more potential functions and dimensions.
